Journey Mental Health Center, in Madison, WI, was fortunate to receive funding support from the Charles E. Kubly Foundation for two important projects in 2025.

Rapid Trauma Response & Community Support

In December of 2024, Journey Mental Health Center began coordinating and leading rapid trauma response services for students, staff, and families at Abundant Life Christian School following their tragic school shooting incident.

Our team of community-engaged therapists provided consistent support, found faith-based providers to meet their specific needs, and developed group counseling sessions that addressed their overlapping experiences of grief as educators, caregivers, and community members.

CEKF Funding Support

The Charles E. Kubly Foundation granted funds to Journey so that our team could focus on meeting the mental health needs of the Abundant Life Christian School community.

School-Based Mental Health Services

Journey Mental Health Center also offers school-based mental health services in 10 school districts in Dane County. We facilitate screenings for depression, traumatic stress, and suicide risk for about 4,500 middle and high school students. This process typically alerts us to almost 35% of students screened needing some form of intervention – consultations with school counselors, joining a peer-processing group, outpatient counseling, or even immediate safety plans.

This program is vital for identifying youth mental health needs, and connecting families to necessary support systems for healthy, resilient young people in our community.

Community Partnerships & Fundraising

Our partnerships with schools are made possible by philanthropic gifts to Journey. In August, our back-to-school fundraising campaign to support this effort was launched by a matching gift from Drewfest, a Charles E. Kubly Foundation fundraiser created by Julie and Justin Randall.

Drewfest is a Madison-based family charity event that reduces stigma around mental health, and partners with the Charles E. Kubly Foundation as their fiscal sponsor. The campaign raised over $20,000 and helped us form partnerships with schools that provide these vital services to children free of charge!

Journey Mental Health Center recognizes the incredible leadership of the Charles E. Kubly Foundation in the mental health community, and we’re proud to grow in partnership with such a tremendous organization. Thank you so much for all your support.
